Today’s BBC has a great piece on where the fish on the British plate comes from.
You can read it here.
Import What We Like, and Sell A Lot to the French and Russians
The UK imports a lot of the fish we like to eat. We love fish like cod , which we import from Iceland. Our North Sea does not have enough of it. See my recent post on this.
There is nothing wrong with importing and exporting fish. Customers may find it strange that there fish is traveling a few thousand miles to reach their plates, but that is just one element of global trade, free exchange from which we all benefit.
Why So Much Cod
A basic reason we import so much is we no longer produce enough fish in our own waters. We need to reply on countries who are not incompetent in their fisheries management.
